Toyota offered the Century internationally to compete with Mercedes-Maybach?
It’s like being inside an 80's Cadillac
I prefer a Mother of Pearl paneling than wood. That bamboo finish Lexus uses is fine with me, too.
However, I wish that they update it and make the commoner’s Century a bit more like the Emperor’s im keeping up with times. The fender mirrors MUST stay, though.
Who’s with me on this one?

Or, at the very least, a new Lexus on the Century’s platform - and with the Century’s V12.

Last time I was in Shinjuku waiting by the curb I saw one waiting to pick someone up, so I went and talked to the driver. He let me have a look. It would be cool to import one.

I can’t imagine them being successful because of the importance they place on badge prestige here in the US. People already say they’re paying too much for a Lexus saying that it’s a glorified Toyota, wouldn’t it be worse if it was ACTUALLY a Toyota.
That being said I'd actually love one though.

If they ever reboot it, they must resist the temptation of leather seats like they did here. I am proud of them.

I find the spindle grille too loud for such a category. However, I agree with you on the V12. :)

I guess that is one of the things that makes a Century a Century.

Good point. That’s also the reason why the K900 doesn’t sell well. But whatever, they should sell this outside Japan!

It’s an unapologetic, overpowered grandpa sedan. So it’s fucking awesome. You have the get the Japanese seat protectors.

Import one. The ‘latest’ model can almost be legally brought to the states, that’s the plus of elephantine model generations.

Leather is optional, but rarely ordered. Good for Toyota though, for still offering cloth that feels luxurious enough not to be considered a step down.
Back in the ‘80s, Lincoln and Cadillac had cloth interiors so plush, they’d make you never want to pay extra for leather again. Which, could be part of the reason they went away here.

Love it, but not really a luxury competitor

this wouldnt compete with the maybach. mayback is more gadgets and passenger comfort. this is more old-school class. this would be closer to rolls then the merc

I would have used Rolls-Royce instead of Mercedes-Maybach. But because it is decontented, I feel it is lesser than a Rolls. It think it is closer in terms of price to the Merc

We need to bring back those interiors. I’ve been in a Suburban with a leather interior less comfy than the cloth in my friend’s ‘94 Corsica.

It looks very Soviet and very 80s ... would need a major refresh.

I have a base model ‘80s Town Car with blue velour seats, they’re so soft and cushy. First car I’ve ever had with a cloth interior, and it’s by far the most comfortable, beating even the Fleetwood. I’m also glad the original owners didn’t spring for leather, because I doubt it would have held up as well after 32 years.

Maybach failed the first time, and this thing is a bit slab-sided like the 57 and 63. The Maybachs here look horrible to me, especially in two-tone paint. But yeah - you could redo the car, badge it as a Lexus, and sell more than a few. And it’d be a damn sight more reliable than a Benz or a 7 series.

The jealousy is strong. I don’t care how awful it looks - I’d put one of those interiors in a brand-new CT6 if I could.

There was a V12 on BAT for super cheap recently, and generally speaking I have almost zero interest in Japanese stuff, but my Jimmy was definitely rustled.
